The First 6 Months of 2015- Positional Chapters

Earlier this year we started using the positional chapter system as recommended by the Gracie Academy for the master cycle advanced classes.  I believe this is one of the most effective ways to increase learning and focus; to put the vast majority of your efforts towards mastering a positions’ escapes, controls, finishes, defences and maintenance.  This method, alongside technical and focused drilling and positional sparring allows us ample opportunity to master the next layer of information we need to make solid improvements, and gives us time to try out something we may be working on out of personal interest.  Positional focus for the month has been met with positive feedback from many students and always allows us to give a little extra attention to things that may be missed if we relied only on our strengths or tendencies.  Jiu Jitsu progress is often about finding out our weaknesses and finding a way to improve from there.  That is why defence is essential, it gives a platform for survival, which leads to opportunities for offensive manoeuvres that will finish the fight efficiently without great energy expenditure or taking serious damage.

Really looking forward to seeing positive improvements in everyone’s Jiu Jitsu in 2015.
