How we are keeping Jiu Jitsu alive during this temporary closure

Hey everyone, please feel free to have a read through this small update.  We opened up in June of 2008, and built everything on a shoestring budget.  Every student found their way to our school by word of mouth or from street and website presence for over 10 years.  Even as other Jiu Jitsu schools came and went, we were the first school in North Vancouver to offer Jiu Jitsu and Jiu Jitsu only.  This shut down is challenging for everyone, for the students, teachers, and families that enjoyed the benefits and attended the classes over the years.  We were purposefully keeping costs low, while we built up membership and a teaching team, which was great.  During this time I will share with you some of the ways we are keeping the school alive:

  1. We are offering an assortment of classes online every week, on a schedule, for each of our programs: BullyProof, Gracie Combatives, Women Empowered, Master Cycle, and FitJitsu.
  2. We have given continued access to online study through the most organized and deliberate at home study program in Jiu Jitsu: GracieUniversity.com
  3. All students have received a link to a tracking sheet, to track not only the online classes they have attended, but the classes they study on their own.
  4. We created a tuition continuation program, where every dollar that a student spends on their tuition during this time, is refunded to them in the following 10 months, after we re-open.
  5. We have also been doing giveaways and extras, but that is for the love.
  6. We have applied to any and all small business support programs in order to receive bridge funding during this time
  7. We have negotiated with our landlords in order to minimize rent expenditure.
  8. We have extended, or deferred any outstanding payments.

I thought this might be interesting to everyone.  We are really committed to riding this through, it has been of utmost importance to keep memberships going during this time, to make sure that our costs are taken care of until this passes.  We are entirely grateful for each and every person that chose to pay their tuition and we assure you of our commitment to make sure there is a space to practice Jiu Jitsu open soon enough in our Neighbourhood!  Thank you.

I have attached the tracking sheets in the previous blog, and will write a blog post shortly on how you it is even possible to be promoted during this time.
